In 1999, Fred Fortin got together with some buddies at a cottage in St. Félicien to record “Tue ce drum Pierre Bouchard” under the name “Gros Mené.” This was the only garage rock album in the Quebec artist’s repertory until last October, when “Agnus Dei” came out of nowhere, much to the delight of fans who had given up hope on a second album.
As good as Gros Mené are on disc, it’s live that the group totally explodes, and the double bass and guitar attack of old friends Fred Fortin and Olivier Langevin (leader of Galaxie) is the main attraction. Gritty and hard-hitting!
