Established in 2006 in the Boston area by saxophonist Danny Mekkonen, the Debo Band draws from its Ethiopian heritage to create an ethio-groove all its own. Signed by Sub Pop, the band blends soul and funk, but mainly draws its inspiration from masters of the Ethiopiques series, such as Mahmoud Ahmed and Mulatu Astatke. An original sound, with influences of Irish bands typical of Boston and typically American energy.
