Synopsis
Péribonka, au début du siècle. Maria Chapdelaine est promise en mariage à Eutrope Gagnon, mais son coeur préfère Francois Paradis, l'aventurier. Maria a aussi un troisieme soupirant, Lorenzo Surprenant, qui lui hésite à retourner chez lui après avoir connu Maria. Pendant l'hiver, Francois meurt en forêt. Plus tard, Maria se résigne et accepte finalement d'épouser son promis, Eutrope.
