Pioneer of Afrobeat, with a style blending funk and jazz flavours with traditional African music, saxophonist Orlando Julius has always pushed the boundaries of the conventional. Released in 1966, the album Super Afro Soul made him a celebrity in Nigeria and helped shape the funk movement that eventually swept the United States. Sometimes more brassy, sometimes more psychedelic, but always incredibly warm, the music of Orlando Julius will charm the ears and hearts of festival-goers.
