This quintet from Portland is indie-rock at its most baroque. Often described as progressive rock, there is something elusive about their hybrid style, evoking the ambition of bands as creative as Fairport Convention, Jethro Tull and Radiohead. Their rock opera, The Crane Wife, even earned a spot in the American Top 30 when it came out in 2006. On their most recent album, What a Terrible World…, the band led by Colin Meloy is even more introspective and indefinable than ever.
