Without a doubt the most influential rapper of his generation, Kendrick Lamar is following in the footsteps of the legendary Tupac Shakur and Eminem. The new standard-bearer for the West Coast sound stands out because of his inimitable flow and introspective, beautifully nuanced lyrics. After becoming known with his album the great Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, he literally reinvented himself with the classic To Pimp a Butterfly, an album in which he addresses, without the slightest complacency, the problems of society and his community. Hits like Swimming Pools, Money Trees, King Kunta, and Poetic Justice definitely make him one of the pillars of today’s hip hop scene, all categories combined. So it’s no surprise to learn that this new chapter of his career is as urgent as it is socially committed. An artist who is already among the greats of our time.
