Satriani was inspired to play guitar instead of keyboards and drums after learning of the death of his idol, Jimi Hendrix. Nicknamed “Satch”, the celebrated guitarist, who has released some 20 albums, has taught guitar to a number of famous musicians, including Kirk Hammett, who he will share the stage with on July 16 at the Festival. Satriani has played with Mick Jagger and Deep Purple and is a member of Chickenfoot, along with former members of Van Halen and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He has the second most Grammy Award nominations of any artist (15), but has yet to win.
