A triumphant success on Broadway, as well as in London, Paris and over 26 countries worldwide, the play The 39 Steps has received numerous awards including the Laurence Olivier Award, two Tony Awards and the Molière for Best New Comedy. Hailed as one of the best comedies of the last decade, The 39 Steps was adapted for the stage by Patrick Barlow based on the original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon. This Quebec version is produced by Denise Robert, Pierre Marchand and Steve Galluccio, who obtained the performance rights for a French version in Canada.
The cast is made up of four fabulous actors: Joël Legendre, Diane Lavallée, Martin Drainville and Patrice Coquereau. These seasoned and beloved performers alone will portray some thirty different characters in an amazing performance full of humour and suffused with mystery. The team supporting the cast is just as impressive, with the participation in particular of Paul Baillargeon, music, Ginette Magny, costumes, Claude Benoit, lighting design, Marie-Claude Gagné, sound design, and Patrice Bengle, sets and props. The French translation is by Luciana Burcheri and Benoit Pelletier is responsible for the Quebec adaptation as well as the stage direction.
The plot revolves around a somewhat blasé gentleman, suspected of murdering a mysterious woman who had told him of the existence of a dangerous plot that threatened national security. Hounded by the Secret Service, the poor man does all he can to prove his innocence by attempting to personally unmask the traitors behind the conspiracy. Murder, beautiful women, double agents and other clichés of the genre are all part and parcel with the multiple twists and turns of this spellbinding comedy.
Without a shadow of a doubt, this Quebec version of The 39 Steps promises to be the smash hit of the 2012 fall season!
