Oliver Mtukudzi is one of African music's best-kept secrets, who remains relatively unknown here despite his 57 albums over the course of a 35-year career.
Born in Zimbabwe, Oliver Mtukudzi sings in the rich, metaphorical language of his people, the Shona, drawing on its poetic power to convey his messages. While most of his songs demand (pre-1980), then celebrate the liberation of Zimbabwe from Rhodesia, today he sings of positivity, solidarity and hope.
In concert, Oliver Mtukudzi is the voice of his people and one of their finest representatives.
