Bursting out of the same San Francisco scene that gave us DJ Shadow and Blackalicious, Tom Shimura stamped his vocal signature on recordings by Oregon group Lifesavas, Tommy Guerrero and Poets of Rhythm. One half of the duo Latyrx, the rapper also works under the alias Lyrics Born, concocting hip hop spiked with funk and R&B that just sounds like the musical invitation to p-a-r-t-y. It's the first Festival appearance for this spearhead of the American alternative rap scene.
