You’re invited to hear this singer-cellist perform pieces from her new album to be released in the fall 2012 – a chance to discover this gem named Jorane in an evening that promises to be full of life, energy and sensitivity.
Since the release of her first album Vent fou in 1999, Jorane has travelled the world, earning rave reviews around the globe. This unusual artist’s albums since then include 16mm (2000), Jorane Live (2002), the soundtrack to the film Je n'aime que toi and Evapore (both 2003), and The You and The Now (2004). In 2006, Jorane released pieces from Canvas or Canvass? on the web. After that came Vers à soi in 2007 and Dix in 2008, the latter a double album including ten originals marking the tenth anniversary of her career.
Jorane has had no fewer than 16 ADISQ and two Juno nominations. Her album Evapore won a Félix award in 2004 for Album of the year (contemporary folk), and in 2006, she won a Gémeaux in the Best original music (documentary) category for her soundtrack for Indécences, a documentary by Lewis Cohen about Cirque du Soleil’s show Zhumanity. Jorane has written a great deal of music for the cinema. Among others, she can be heard on the soundtracks to Je suis Dina (2002) and Adrian Lyne’s Unfaithful (2002), starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane. In February 2007, she won a Jutra prize for the music from the film Un dimanche à Kigali. That year, she was also nominated for the music from Claude Gagnon’s Kamataki. Since then, she has composed music for Jean-Claude Labrecque’s film Infiniment Québec and has appeared many times with symphony orchestras, notably as one of the main events of the 2009 Francofolies de Montréal and at the 2008 opening of the Cultural Olympiad in anticipation of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. These are only a few of her varied and extraordinary accomplishments!
