In its heyday in Cuba during the early 1970s the group Irakere, made up of trumpeter Arturo Sandoval alongside Paquito D’Rivera and Chucho Valdes, brought Cuban music into the modern era. After living in exile in Florida since 1990, Sandoval recently moved to Los Angeles. A Time For Love, a wonderful album dedicated to classical and film music released in 2010, has received tremendous critical acclaim. In concert, the musician never passes up the opportunity to pay tribute to his mentor Dizzy Gillespie. He has long been considered as one of the world’s greatest trumpet virtuosos.
