A surprising and equally improbable encounter between Paolo Fresu, an Italian trumpet player of wide-ranging experience, and Omar Sosa, the great Cuban pianist and composer who blends his country’s musical roots, contemporary writing and Arabic culture. Alma (which is Spanish for soul) is the culmination of the latest collaboration between these two men. Together, they build a poetic bridge between Cuba and the Mediterranean, exploring new musical boundaries. An often spacey, atmospheric music that is nonetheless firmly rooted in the rhythms of varied yet kindred cultures. The top pick of jazz critics in 2012.
