French trumpeter Erik Truffaz has been said to be in the same league as Miles Davis, no less. His distinctly urban sound is inspired as much by electronic music and acoustic jazz as by rock. Accompanied by his quartet, Truffaz makes one of his rare appearances in Quebec City in a not to be missed event, to present his album In Between. The group, established in 1997, is above all a collective entity with remarkable dynamism. This concert promises to be one of the highlights of the 2012 Jazz Festival.
The unclassifiable artist Sophie Hunger, who charmed audiences as the opening act for Madeleine Peyroux’s most recent concert in Quebec City, grew up in England, Germany and Switzerland. Her musical horizons are wide-ranging: a world without stylistic barriers in which the multi-instrumentalist jumps freely between jazz, folk and rock. She shares stages with such jazz greats as Erik Truffaz, The Young Gods- pioneers of industrial music-, and French vocalist Camille. Despite the undeniable success of her recordings, the stage will always be her forte. What is most often reminded from her multilingual concerts – besides her vocal performances –, are her jazzy piano improvisations, the sound of her electric guitar that she plays like a punk goddess, and her folk harmonica solos
