As successfully achieved by the pianist Herbie Hancock in the 60’s, pianist Robert Glasper tries today to merge jazz and the most popular forms of Afro-American music. With Black Radio in 2012, the Robert Glasper Experiment band presents the achievement of a process aiming at combining jazz with the multiple worlds of R&B, Soul, Hip-hop, rap and rock.
The group presents a re-reading, transforming standards such as Afro Blue (Coltrane) or Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana). He also features special guests, cooperating unreservedly with rappers like Bilal, Mos Def or Meshell Ndegeocello.
The concert that will be presented in Quebec by Glasper will offer the double dimension of the album Double-Booked, released in 2010: a first part with his acoustic trio, with the addition of a saxophonist, and a second featuring the urban and electric experimentation, typical of the Experiment project.
