Founded in 1824, the Literary and Historical Society of Quebec was the first learned society in Canada. Its history is linked to the intellectual development of the nation. Recently, the Society has reassessed its mission and is now the main promoter and driving force behind the Morrin Centre project.

The Morrin Centre draws on the resources of the Society's unbroken history of intellectual endeavor, its priceless historical collections, and the historic building that houses them. It strives to foster English-speaking culture in Quebec City, share it with the rest of the population, and encourage cultural exchanges in French and English. This cultural centre currently offers a wide range of activities including library services, guided tours, readings by prominent authors, discussion groups on stimulating topics, writing workshops, poetry classes, theatre and much more.
