It was first built in 1688 exactly where Samuel de Champlain built his “Habitation“. A stone formation, in front of the church ,marks the spot where his house once stood.

During the famous battle on the Plains of Abraham in 1759, the church was destroyed by cannon balls. It was later restored to It’s original architecture as you see it today. In 1929 the church was listed on the historical register.
